Welcome & Reading Check-In

Open the virtual room. Ask participants to type in chat: one word or phrase that captures their reaction to the reading. Give people a moment to read each other's responses before moving on.

2
reflection10m

Individual Reflection (Silent)

Ask participants to spend 5–8 minutes in their own notes or a shared doc answering: What resonated? What challenged you? What question are you sitting with? This anchors the discussion in personal experience before the group dives in.

Small Group Breakout Discussion

Send participants to breakout rooms of 3–4. Assign a discussion anchor question from the text. Designate a timekeeper and note-taker. Each group should capture 1–2 key insights and 1 lingering question to bring back.

Whole-Group Share-Out

Each breakout group shares their key insight and lingering question. Facilitator captures themes on a shared screen. Look for connections, tensions, and surprises across groups. Avoid summarizing — let participant voices lead.

Connection to Practice

Ask: How does this connect to what you see in your classroom or school? Use a structured protocol: each person completes the sentence 'This changes how I think about ___' in the chat or aloud. Surface 2–3 to discuss briefly.

Closing & Next Steps

Preview the next reading assignment and discussion focus. Ask for a volunteer to open the next session. Invite participants to share one word in the chat as a closing ritual. Save the shared doc of insights for ongoing reference.
