Edcamp Unconference

A free, participant-driven unconference where educators collaboratively build the session board on the day of the event. No presentations โ€” just conversations driven by experience, curiosity, and shared challenges. Follows the core Edcamp tenets: free & open, participant-driven, experience over experts, Rule of Two Feet, and vendor-free.

Welcome & Community Building

Welcome all participants warmly. Emphasize that everyone is an equal contributor โ€” there are no experts and no presentations. Briefly introduce the Rule of Two Feet: if a session isn't meeting your needs, it's encouraged (not rude!) to move to another. Remind everyone: vendor-free, free of charge, and driven by them.

Session Board Building

Invite anyone who wants to facilitate a conversation to come up, write their topic on a sticky note or index card, and briefly pitch it to the group (30 seconds max). Group similar topics. Collectively vote or sort sessions into available rooms and time slots. Take a photo of the board and share digitally so everyone has access.

Session Block 1

Participants self-select sessions that match their interests and needs. Facilitators guide conversation using their own experience โ€” not slides or lectures. Encourage all voices. Remind participants: Rule of Two Feet is always in effect.

Break & Hallway Conversations

Unstructured networking time. Some of the best Edcamp learning happens in the hallway. Encourage participants to share contact info, follow each other on social media, and update the session board if needed.

Session Block 2

Second round of participant-chosen sessions. Organizers should circulate to support facilitators and note any emerging energy or topics that could carry into session block 3.

Break & Snacks

Light refreshments if available. A good time to check in with participants about their experience and surface any needs for the afternoon sessions.

Session Block 3

Third round. By this point energy is usually high and conversations go deep. Encourage facilitators to end sessions with a concrete takeaway, next step, or resource to share.

Lunch & Open Networking

If a full-day event, lunch break with open networking. Optionally post a 'What I'm Taking Back' board where participants can share sticky note wins.

Session Block 4 (Afternoon)

Optional fourth session block for full-day events. Topics often emerge from morning conversations. Allow participants to re-pitch new topics that surfaced during the day.

Whole-Group Reflection & Closing

Gather all participants together. Invite brief shares: one thing you're taking back, one connection you made, or one question you're still sitting with. Celebrate the community. Share info on how to organize or attend future Edcamps. Encourage participants to advocate for Edcamp credit with their administrators.
